Episode 14
In this episode of Beyond Sunday, the team unpacks the difference between a test and a temptation — one meant to refine us like gold, the other meant to wound us — and how to tell which one you're in. Drawing on Joseph testing his brothers in Egypt, they get honest about why the same tests keep coming back, why waiting is its own kind of test, and how the enemy stalks us when we're hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. The conversation turns personal too, with a frank look at forgiveness and estrangement: what it means to forgive without erasing boundaries, and how healed people can go on to help heal others. Whether you're looking for encouragement, perspective, or a deeper understanding of the Gospel, this conversation will help you continue the journey beyond Sunday.
Whatever isn't tested should never be trusted — and God is gracious enough to let us try the test again.
Share Your Story
Everyone is being tested by something — a waiting season, a relationship, a wound that won't fully close. Joseph's story reminds us that God uses those tests not to shame us, but to reveal what's inside and refine it like gold. Your story matters here: the trial that produced endurance you didn't know you had, the forgiveness that finally set you free, the boundary that let you honor God and protect your heart at the same time. Someone listening is in the middle of their own test right now, convinced they're the only one. Share how God met you there — your honesty might be exactly what helps them hold on.
Take Your Next Step
When a test or temptation comes, the enemy waits for you to be alone — so the next step is rarely to isolate. Run the HALT check: are you hungry, angry, lonely, or tired? Then do the opposite of pulling away. Get spiritually fed, find peace in the Spirit, get into community, rest in the Lord. Put a verse on a card for the thing you keep facing, so you've got the answer to the test before it comes. And if forgiveness is your test, try what Joseph models — specific, grace-filled, honest about the wound but refusing to let bitterness win. Spiritual growth happens when we stop asking only "why is this happening?" and start asking "God, what do you want to do in me through this?"
Invite Someone & Get Connected
Faith outside of community is unbiblical — and it's also the fastest way to get picked off when life gets hard. The hosts were candid about it: when we're struggling is exactly when we're tempted to pull away from the people we need most. Someone in your life is in that spot right now, quietly isolating in the middle of a trial. Invite them in. Life Groups are where tests get faced together, where forgiveness gets modeled, and where healed people help heal others. Get connected — because nobody passes the hard tests alone.
