Almost everyone lands somewhere in this passage — either as a parent trying not to repeat what they inherited, or as an adult child still working out what honor looks like from a distance. Your story matters here, and it doesn't have to be tidy. The parent who learned to lead with belonging instead of fear, the person who found freedom in forgiving a difficult parent, the mom or dad who finally apologized and watched grace become real at home — those stories give someone else permission to believe change is possible. You don't need to have it all together. You just need the honesty to say what God is doing in you right now.

Paul doesn't hand parents a strategy for control — he hands them a calling to nurture, holding guardrails and grace together under Christ's authority. And that starts with the same posture God asks of all of us: open hands instead of a tight grip. So look honestly at your home this week. What would your kids say is the atmosphere — grace and gentleness, or anger and fear? What patterns from your own upbringing are quietly repeating? Then pick one concrete step: tell your kid daily something you love about them, apologize for something you've been too proud to own, or simply pray, God, grow my kids into everything You created them to be.
