When Jesus is Enough

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” – John 3:17

The Heart of Christmas

I’m always moved by how deeply this verse (John 3:17) captures the heart of Christmas.

Jesus didn’t come to point fingers or push people away. He came to draw us close, to love, to rescue, and to remind us that no one is too far gone or too unseen for His grace. Often when we feel condemned, it’s really shame whispering that we’re not enough. That shame can come from deep within or from the weight of what life has pressed upon us. But hear this truth today: even in those moments, Jesus was sent for you.

Lillian Trasher Orphanage in Egypt

A team from Newbreak recently spent time at the Lillian Trasher Orphanage in Egypt, where they saw this verse come to life in a powerful way. They met with widows who call the orphanage home. The widows, because of cultural and religious barriers, have few options beyond its walls. In Egypt, a woman can only leave if she marries or if her family chooses to take her back in. And being followers of Jesus adds another layer of hardship; as Christians, they are seen as outcasts, often treated as less than others in their community.

As our team spent time with them, they got to hear their stories. By the world’s standards, they have so little. But when our team stepped into their small prayer room, they found a joy that can’t be explained by circumstances.

Jesus is Enough

These women lifted their hands in worship with tears of gratitude, declaring that Jesus is enough. One woman sang, "how could a sinner like me be loved and saved by You, and yet you sent Your Son to die for me." The team realized while their culture and life experience was so different, they were united by the truth that we're all sinners, but Jesus died for us anyway. These women may have nothing in material terms, but they are rich in faith. They should serve as a reminder: when you have Jesus, you truly have everything.

That’s the message of Christmas. Jesus came not to condemn the broken pieces of our lives, but to redeem them. He came for everyone, even those the world overlooks!

A Family Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to save and not to condemn. We lift up the Lillian Trasher Orphanage and every woman and child living there. Surround them with Your peace, strength, and provision. Let their faith continue to shine brightly in a place where hope can feel scarce. And for us here at home, teach us to find true contentment not in what we have, but in You. Fill our hearts with gratitude this Christmas, knowing that when we have You, we truly have everything. Amen.
