James has some strong words for those who say they have faith but they don’t do anything with it. “Your faith is dead!” Strong words, but he is right! Jesus brings us to new life through faith in him and now we are challenged to put our faith into action to serve those around us. The world’s landscape rapidly changed after the resurrection of Jesus. As God’s work of redeeming people continued, communities were formed. But the truth is we are still messy even while we are redeemed. James writes with a bluntness and candor that is unique in the New Testament.
