Newbreak Church is Committed to Tierrasanta

Tierrasanta is a unique community with a mix of longtime San Diegans, as well as having a housing community for the largest military population in the nation. We are “The Island In The Hills,” so the inland beach community feel is definitely present here. This is a very tight knit community with a lot of activities available in our backyard. We are able to go walk or bike just about everywhere, taking advantage of the community recreation center, as well as the local trails to experience the beautiful nature surrounding us.

One of my favorite things about not only serving and pastoring here, but also living here is creating relationships with the local organizations and families. Fostering relationships in our local community is one of the things my heart beats for because it allows me to have a pulse on what is going on with the schools, families, and businesses and how we could best serve them. Seeking opportunities to show Tierrasanta the love of Jesus by simply meeting needs is one of the driving forces that gets me out of bed in the morning.

Having such a large military community right here in Tierrasanta gives us the opportunity to partner with and serve them in a special way. We are continually doing invocations, retirements, memorials, and other events for active duty and retired military service members. The military community is constantly moving in and out, giving us the opportunity to remember that time is fleeting and we may only have a short moment of time to impact the lives of those around us, so we need to be intentional and present.

We believe in this community with all of our hearts. Come by on a Sunday morning and grab a wonderful cup of coffee from Industrial Grind, a small coffee shop right here in Tierrasanta. As a team, we often meet at some of the local restaurants and businesses to support them. We also partner with local organizations to put on different events like concerts in the park, and Christmas In Tierrasanta where families can get pictures with Santa, kids can spend time on crafts, and parents can have a few moments to relax while their kids are having fun!

Our partnership with the local schools is one of the things that really excites us. We have been able to do school beautification projects, we have remodeled classrooms, offices, teachers’ lounges, and even sports fields. Our sponsorship of extra-curricular activities and sports teams at those schools allows us to pour into the next generation. Hosting banquets at our campus free of charge has made a huge impact on the coaches/advisors and parents of those students. Putting on movie nights both on campus at the school, and in our parking lot has been so much fun throughout the years. Showing up for teachers appreciation and doing back to school outreaches to partner with teachers and faculty and simply remind them they are loved, supported, and prayed for has become something we really look forward to doing.

Some more partnerships and events here at Newbreak Tierrasanta:

  • Trunk-Or-Treat: Fully FREE event for the community to come and have a safe place for kids, even providing a sensory room for kiddos who need something a little quieter.
  • Thanksgiving outreach where we provide meals for those who need it.
  • Adopted the senior living apartments located behind our campus.
  • Partnership with San Diego Youth Services to work with iCare and STARS: outreach for youth rescued from or at risk of human trafficking/domestic violence.
  • Partnership with San Diego Blood Bank: host blood drives at our campus that are consistently the largest in the area.
  • Partnership with the San Diego Police Department: opening our campus to provide a place during overnight hours, refurbished their breakroom, and provide coffee/creamer/sugar for them.

It truly is an honor to get to serve this community with the people who call Newbreak Tierrasanta home. Getting to see the impact that our generosity and love as the hands and feet of Jesus makes on the individuals we get to partner with and serve is a big blessing and I can’t wait to see what we get to do next!
